Subject: [spf-discuss] SPF spec is frozen, but I don't think it has been
finalized
First, softfail has been in various versions of spf1. There are
SPF records out there right now with it. I would guess that
softfail has been in the spec longer than it has been out of it.
I always liked softfail, and was sad to see it go. I prefer to have this
back in the headers:
"transitioning domain of ... does not designate ... as permitted sender"
It gives all who examine the headers a clear headsup. To the sender it says,
"Dear user, something is imminent with your domain; we're going to change
something, as per our announcement, and this is your reminder." To the
receiving party it says, "Look, we're introducing a new protection scheme;
you may wanna get in on it too."
Now it just says,
"unable to determine SPF status for ..."
As if you misconfigured something. :(
It only takes two minute changes to Query.pm (1.99), which can easily be
made by hand, even -- basically just the removal of two lines where ~ is
being set to ?, that is all.
