Everyone,
For several weeks now I have been politely requesting that both Wayne
and Shevek desist from their use of the libspf2.org and libsrs2.org
domain names.
Both Wayne and Shevek have both had personal requests from Meng
requesting that they cease from using it. It has gotten to the point
where I am SICK and TIRED of dealing with this abuse.
I have tried to understand this and I am still unable to. Are you
saying you have the exclusive right to use the name "libspf?" If you
cared that much about the name, you probably would have registered it as
a trademark.
If the name "libspf2" is too close to "libspf" that is a *strong*
indication that the name "libspf" was not unique enough to start with.
If a unique name is that important to you, why not change yours? Really,
you could call it whatever you want, as long as you don't infringe on
any *real* trademarks. You could call it libspfJC. Why not?
The name is not really as important as how well the product works. If
you build a better mousetrap, people will beat a path to your door. If
you don't, and your only claim to fame is being the first one to use the
name, then even if you win the name game, your product will still lose.
My recommendation is to leave the name games to the marketers and
salespeople. Since you have a free product, and a limited staff, your
resources are already a bit constrained, so if you spend a lot of time
and energy worrying about marketing and sales, you will have less time
available for coding. Therefore, I recommend not worrying about the
name and getting on with the coding.
I am fielding a great deal of emails daily now having to try to explain
the differences.
That is a good reason to put up a web page explaining the differences.
This is complete and utter crap, and I am incredulous
that someone in Wayne's position would act in this manner.
But WHY did they choose these names? Both Wayne and Shevek feel that
their work is superior and when attempts to work together did not happen
these two felt that they rightfully were due an "official" appearing
domain name. Well thats crap.
I think they are as much entitled to an "official-looking"
domain/product name as you are.
"Official-looking" may get more attention, but it doesn't make the
product work better. I guess you need to decide if you're in this for
attention or for making a good product. Statements like "I am sick and
tired of being ignored" might lead readers to conclude that you are in
this for the attention and not genuinely interested in doing some
volunteer effort for the greater good.
I don't think I've ever seen such
disgusting behaviour on behalf of two people who are supposed to be
leaders in their respective areas. I have worked my ass off aide this
project and all I get in return is subversive behaviour and no action.
Wayne has managed to lie himself into believing that "libspf2" is not
misleading, and perhaps that works for him... however it does not for
me, and I REFUSE TO TOLERATE this retarded behaviour ANY longer. As for
Shevek I expect the same.
Hmm, I can't imagine why anyone would find you difficult to work with.
:-P
Seriously. Produce a good product. Call it "libspf" or "libspfJC" or
JamesNET or whatever you want. Don't stress on what someone else has
named their sh!t. Just code. If the product is good, people will use
it.
