Actually, it's pretty easy, assuming you have at least one "outside" email
account. Any account that lets you view full headers will do. (I think even
Hotmail qualifies.)

Example header line from mail I sent to one of my other accounts:

Received: from ringbill.gull.us
    (adsl-68-79-166-178.dsl.sfldmi.ameritech.net [68.79.166.178])
by pimout6-ext.prodigy.net (8.12.10 milter /8.12.10) with ESMTP id
    i7QL1nKZ382898
        for <gull(_at_)m-net(_dot_)arbornet(_dot_)org>; Thu, 26 Aug 2004
17:01:50 -0400

From this you can see that my machine claimed to be "ringbill.gull.us" in its
EHLO command. The reverse DNS said something else. (Some people who use
really strict HELO checks would reject this, in fact.)

If you don't have an "extra" email account outside of your own server for
testing stuff like this, I'd suggest you get one from a free provider
somewhere. It comes in handy for various types of configuration checks.
