HP>Why else do you think that I am trying to get the term acountable into the
HP>title of the group?
HP>
HP>Nobody on this list is going to be invited into the back rooms where all the
HP>decision power lies at the IETF. You can see that some folk think they are
HP>in the running but they are in for a surprise.
HP>
HP>Setting up the SPF Leadership council is already a challenge to the IETF
HP>establishment, one that they are likely to find easy to rebuff by simply
HP>asserting that they invented the Internet (which is untrue, the real
HP>visionaries left long ago).
HP>
HP>If you choose standards expertise as the issue then the establishment will
HP>win, unfairly in my view but the image they have constructed is one of being
HP>the experts in this area. If on the other hand you choose accountability
HP>then the fact that the IETF constitution is a stalinist farce becomes
HP>apparent, lots of happy talk about inclusiveness and openess and all the
HP>decision making power reserved to an unelected, unaccountable politburo.
An excellent strategic direction I think. I know we've had our
differences but your comments have genuine merit. I am hoping that
others agree with this as well. Accountability *IS* the bedrock issue
and unless we go there I must agree that we will lose.
