On Thu, 11 Nov 2004, Hallam-Baker, Phillip spewed into the bitstream:

HP>You can do just as well by setting up your own standards group like we did
HP>with the Web consortium when the IETF started to become a threat to the
HP>success of the Web.

It worked too!

HP>I think that you are under-rating yourselves. Don't set up an SPF Leadership
HP>Council, call it the Accountable Messaging Standards Group, then ratify the
HP>spec yourselves. Whatever flaws there might be in SPF are probably beyond
HP>redemption at this point. Hold elections for the leadership and you will be
HP>instantly more credible than the IETF.
HP>
HP>The importance of a standards body is who takes part and who listens to it.

As I said in my previous msg to a later part of this thread, this is
excellent strategy and I appreciate your willingness to say it. Thank
you.

For those who are discounting PHB's suggestions in this regard simply
because of some of previous disagreements please do not discount it so
simply. These suggestions have genuine merit and weight. I suspect
to ignore it would be foolish.
