Re: [xsl] [Ann] Oxygen XML Editor version 23 release

2020-11-24 01:30:36
Hello Tommie,

The projects are updated automatically when you switch to a new version. There should be no problem when you switch from one version to other. There have probably been some problems in the past, but I hope they have all been resolved. We do not have a topic in documentation that describes how to move projects from one version into the next version. There are some topics in documentation that explains Oxygen XML Editor upgrade process, you can find them here:
https://www.oxygenxml.com/doc/versions/23.0/ug-editor/topics/upgrading.html

If you want to make sure that your project will work fine with the new Oxygen version, maybe you can duplicate the ".xpr" file (create an oxygen21.xpr). Then you can open the project with the new version of Oxygen, test if everything is as you want. and after this delete the duplicated file. You can also compare the new version of ".xpr" with the old one and check the changes. In case you find any issues please report them.

Best Regards,
Octavian

Hello Octavian --

Is there a place in the documentation that describes how to move projects that
were developed in one version of Oxygen into the next version? Or at least a
list of the things that might stop working and some clues on how to solve these
problems?

Some of our clients are quite anxious about moving to a new version of Oxygen
because of the risks to working systems, and in fact a Mulberry project broke
in the change from version 21 to 22. Documenting the tasks needed to upgrade
applications would be helpful; a tool that identified potential gotchas would
be even better.

Hello,

Thanks for your feedback.

We intend to update the Saxon 9 and 10 plugins for the Oxygen XML Editor 23.0.
Because this are provided separately as plugins, we can updated them also after
the release.

We decided to deprecate some of the XSLT processors (Xalan, MSXML 4.0, MSXML
.NET, .NET 1.0, .NET 2.0 ...) because we do not want to maintain them in the
future. We are not sure if we will remove them completely or just mark them as
deprecated. But we will maintain the XSLT 1.0 support in Oxygen. Also, you can
configure them as external processors.
How many of you are using this processors?

Best Regards,
Octavian

I can see that, at the preferences oXygen page, XSLT 1.0 dropdown shows Xalan
as deprecated. It seems to me that, in a future oXygen version, when Xalan
would be removed from the standard oXygen XSLT 1.0 options, one could still use
Xalan with oXygen by specifying it on the 'Custom Engines' option.

Apologies, that I forgot to mention that, I tried oXygen XML Editor version 23.
