I am talking about
        Segmentation violation (core dumped)
as a helpful error message to an attempt to read your mail file.

The attitude that `you must learn to use one of the better mail
reader/writers' is completely unacceptable in most support environments.  You
tell that to your boss who uses /usr/ucb/Mail and he'll tell you `you must
learn to work someplace else, because you no longer have a job here.'

In a one-line summary: yes, you are missing something.
