SMTP works fine for us at QUALCOMM.  One of our network engineers cooked up
a server that responds to email messages such as:

to: pager
subject: username

555-1212
-----------------------

If you know someone has an alpha pager (info which is in our PH database),
you can send more elaborate messages.
