Lacking sufficient time and
resources to do a statistically meaningfull poll on the subject, I
formed preliminary opinions based on the information I had access to.
Others have formed other opinions. Some aren't as pessimistic as you. Some
believe that incrementally wider employment of current imperfect
"solutions" will be "good enough".
I'm aware of users of a webmail system complaining bitterly about the spam
they're delivered. This is because they haven't figured out how to "turn
on" the simple (and largely effective) anti-spam facility provided. I do a
user interface tweak (or change the default setting) and, bingo!, 100k
largely spam-free inboxes.
Time *will* tell.
