I just came across the news that IBM is reaease it's Secure Mailer
program mailer as open source. Does anyone know of if/how Procail works
with the program.

You must be refering to postfix, the MTA written by Wietse Venema. The
FAQ on www.postfix.org says that it does and describes what variables
to set in postfix's configuration file.

I don't think so. This is apparrently a commercial program that has gone
open source.

No, Philip had it exactly right.

Postfix is Weitse's wonderful new MTA, which I've been enjoying in the closed
alpha for nearly a year now; it was only just very recently released in open
public beta. The IBM web site <URL:http://www.ibm.com/alphaworks/> calls it
Secure Mailer --- I don't know why.

It has supported procmail just fine for ages, since I started using it anyway.
Users can pipe into procmail with their dotforward file just like other MTAs,
or you can set "mailbox_command=/usr/bin/procmail" (or whatever path) in
/etc/postfix/main.cf.

In particular, using procmail with Maildir patches as the LDA is the
currently-recommended mechanism for getting Maildir support (which in turn is
why I'm writing my own LDA...).
