I would agree completely with you. In general, Dallman's posts are
terrific and I've learned a great deal from his posts here.

=> there's way too much traffic

I'm not sure I would completely agree with this, not at all.

=> The archives have a lot of cruft in them,

And are not exactly the easiest to search IMO.

=> you'll quickly spot those who on the list have good answers

        Indeed.

I certainly hope that I'm not considered one of them ... although I
must admit to being confused before.

=> Most of the regular posters can
=> (and should) be trusted to give good advice.

Nonetheless, everything can be improved upon and that can happen
sometimes by extended discussion etc especially over time. No recipe pops into
existance fully perfected.

Also, many folks are just learning the archane syntax of procmail
(that's why they're here, not just for turn-key answers) and some may actually
learn by stepping thru *how* to write a recipe from the ground up. This would
necessarily include discussion of why all those stupid mistakes are mistakes.

Unfortunately there appear many here who *only* want turn-key answers
(complete with free support), refuse to work or learn, and we never see them
again.

Myself (and I'm only one person on this list), I enjoy the give and
take. Speaking of "give and take", I even enjoy Sean taking some new poster
to task for not: 1) having a sandbox, 2) having a log, 3) having read the man
pages, 4) having the intellegence to read this list for a while before jumping
in. Please don't deprive me of that pleasure.

BTW: I have also learned an incredible amount about procmail from
Sean's continued selfless efforts to help here (I do respect him a great deal)
and from lots of other folks here as well.

        I enjoy the flow.

        Just a loing rambling opinion,

        - Don
