Re: Getting rid of the fake MS Emails!

2004-03-27 01:32:29
Btw thanks for ccing me, I wasn't subscribed.

in all the 544 viruses that have been sent to me since 12 days, no
single one with a .wav real (last) extension was included. But, the

I believe there were a lot of them late last year. As the chances of wav
being work-related are somewhat small, and mime type audio with
extension != .wav being rubbish are exorbitant, possibilities for
filter-rules exist.

Be careful with these. Outlook 2003 has headers that are often flagged
as fake by similar recipies, SpamAssasin, et al.

Granted, this is a MS Bug, but still as users adopt Outlook 2003, you
may delete REAL email!

Can you be more specific? There are rather a lot of rules in that file.

Background: I got hacked off with idiots of various flavours inundating
me with rubbish. I'm not talking about spammers here - they're tame in
comparison, and easily dealt with by spamassasssin. The more rubbish I
got, the more radical virusnotification.rc became. I didn't care what
type of rubbish - virus, bounce, bounce because of virus, bllablabla,
all the same waste of my time, so I didn't try to distinguish. I
realise I had to make some tradeoff between hit rate and chance of
catching real mail, and as first go suited myself, but people found it
useful so I put it online. So far it has never caught any legit mail of
mine.

If anyone can make suggestions for improvements I'd naturally be
interested.

Volker
