If I simply thought that a service wasn't worth buying, I wouldn't waste
my time posting. There is an important issue for the community on the
table. The issue is whether we intend to allow reputation services that
are paid for by senders to become a virtual necessity to get mail
reliably delivered. That would be an extremely bad thing to happen to
email, unless you are a bulk mailer with deep pockets. This is
something that we should fight strenuously.

There must be _no_ compulsion on mail recipients to pay for anything in
order to receive all mail. It is the personal choice of recipients as to
how they validate their mail and I have always said that the best approach
would probably be to use _all_ the various systems available. If there is
any whiff of MS in amongst licensing, or any fees involved in becoming a
member of a group controlling a service, or any big company even
"sponsoring" a sevice - I would not touch it with a barge-pole. I do not
use or recommend spamhaus or spamcop for this reason. I _do_ recommend
spf to everyone I meet. It's free of direct monetary requirements, and it
is controlled by a group of international part-time experts. Now _that_
is what free means, imho.

Seth is right to follow the money, but I am also extremely grateful to John
Glube for some deep insights. Keep the discussion going guys - just keep it
clean ;-) I believe there are a lot of people on this list like me, who
are learning a lot here :-)
