refocusing on SRS

My position has always been that the opensource advocates
are good at providing end-user support (thanks Koen and
others for the RT) and at writing websites, but not as good
at doing the unglamorous stuff which is absolutely essential
to creating a whole product. And unless we create a whole
product, the job isn't done.

So, while we work on the fun development side of things,
like SES, op=, and bashing PRA, we need to keep getting SPF
and SRS into MTAs, and we need to get those SPF/SRS-enabled
MTAs into standard Unix distributions. The goal remains: to
be able to tell forwarders, when they complain that SPF
breaks forwarding, to "just upgrade". Everything else is
secondary to the success of the project. I have been
repeating this for the last several months.

Since SRS is unglamorous, and because the people who are
involved in this project for fun have not shown much
interest in tackling it, I continue to seek funding to pay
professionals to do that job; I have been looking for
funding for the last 6 months or so and have recently
stepped into high gear in the last month, hiring a
grantwriter and researching SBIR and other grants.

Anyone who would like to help with obtaining funding is
welcome to volunteer. Anyone who would like to actually get
the code written is also welcome to just do that. Keep a
log of your time spent, so that when the funding does show
up we can compensate you retroactively.

My estimates show that we need between $75,000 and $180,000
to get SRS into opensource MTAs and start opening the door
to reputation systems.

The list of things that still need to be done can be found
at

The continuing bickering about infighting, outfighting, and
so on may be entertaining, but ultimately it's just noise,
so I would advise people who don't get much time to read
every thread to ignore anything that doesn't relate to
forward progress with SRS and MTAs.
