I think it would be a very bad idea to switch from using spf.pobox.com
to www.openspf.org *AND* also switch to the new website right now.
There is almost nothing on the new website.
My immediate request is to move from new.openspf.org to www.openspf.org
(or openspf.org or both), nothing more. (I messed up by mistakenly
calling the current www.openspf.org content a redirect.)
I would prefer to see the current, almost-nonexistent new.openspf.org
content on www.openspf.org (or openspf.org or both) over the content
that's currently displayed. (James's current page.)
To make things clear, what I am talking about doing is:
* When you go to www.openspf.org, you will see the current website
that you see with spf.pobox.com.
I object to this. I do not want to see the current spf.pobox.com look
and unedited content on *.openspf.org. (Well, maybe on a
pobox.openspf.org or something, for archival purposes.)
I have always disliked spf.pobox.com's "new" look and somewhat stilted
content. (It was a bit odd when it became almost pro-SenderID, and then
sounded a bit wierd when that was fixed, as things just "didn't fit
right." I don't know how to explain it better than that.)
(BTW, I'm not blaming you for the fact that after removing bad SenderID
info, that the result doesn't quite fit together perfectly--you can't
fix that without basically rewriting everything, and I'm veeerrry glad
you did things other than rewrite a web site during that time!!!)
* When you type in spf.pobox.com, you will be redirected (HTTP 301) to
www.openspf.org.
I would request this part be delayed.
Specifically, I would request that even after openspf.org (or
www.openspf.org) is changed from being James' current content to ????,
that spf.pobox.com not redirect to it for maybe a couple weeks.
That would allow for an extra stage in the transfer.
openspf.org (or www.openspf.org) would be "live", we'd be able to fix
problems, we'd be effectively prodded to fix problems because it's
"live", and we could hold off on the press release and redirect for
another couple weeks to allow for these fixes first, and then release
in a PR the fact that the move to *.openspf.org is "official."
* This would *JUST* be switching the domain name.
* I would then go around and try to get people to switch their links
from spf.pobox.com to www.openspf.org. (I would appreciate help on
this matter.)
Hmm... Sounds like one item on the new.openspf.org site could be a TODO
list along with people assigned-volunteered, so these things don't get
forgotten.
If only we had a TODO list on new.openspf.org, then we could put the
fact that we needed to create a TODO list into the TODO list, and we'd
not forget about that either..
* At some future date, when the new website is ready, we would switch
www.openspf.org to the new website.
If we wait until the new website is ready, we'll be waiting forever.
IMHO, you have to move things "live" before you're perfectly comfortable
with doing so.
