[spf-discuss] Immediate reject of invalid RCPT

2006-02-28 10:43:15
Here is another thing that immediate rejection of invalid RCPT breaks.
DNSReport.com checks whether your MTA accepts mail to postmaster:

2006Feb28 10:55:44 [23743] connect from test.DNSstuff.com at ('66.36.241.109',
51181) EXTERNAL
2006Feb28 10:55:44 [23743] hello from test.DNSreport.com
2006Feb28 10:55:44 [23743] mail from <> ()
2006Feb28 10:55:44 [23743] Received-SPF: pass (mail.bmsi.com: domain of
test.DNSreport.com designates 66.36.241.109 as permitted sender)
client-ip=66.36.241.109;
envelope-from=postmaster(_at_)test(_dot_)DNSreport(_dot_)com;
helo=test.DNSreport.com;
2006Feb28 10:55:44 ID test.DNSreport.com:SPF already in db.
2006Feb28 10:55:44 reputation score is: 0.000000,0.000000
2006Feb28 10:55:44 [23743] X-GOSSiP: kC$3gs.h1gD1eMrJ1tQmNQ==,0,0
2006Feb28 10:55:44 [23743] rcpt to <postmaster(_at_)bmsi(_dot_)com> ()
2006Feb28 10:55:44 [23743] REJECT: bounce with no SRS encoding
2006Feb28 10:55:44 [23743] rcpt to <abuse(_at_)bmsi(_dot_)com> ()
2006Feb28 10:55:44 [23743] REJECT: bounce with no SRS encoding
2006Feb28 10:55:44 [23743] abort after 0 body chars

Arguably, they should not use MFROM <> for this test. However, they do.
A workaround could be to delay only postmaster and abuse rejections until
after DATA.
