Specious comparison. People aren't really adhering to RFC X in the first
place.
Flawed generalization from a specific case; just because "Gmail"
doesn't adhere to the specifications doesn't mean that nobody
pays attention to the relevant RFCs. Some of us take particular
care to adhere to the specifications.
