I don't think anyone has claimed that spammers are forging the addresses of real hotmail users (at least, not intentionally). The claim is that they are using *fake* hotmail addresses. But yes--a few simple stats from Hotmail would resolve this argument.

I'm not sure which upsets me more: that people are so unwilling to accept
responsibility for their own actions, or that they are so eager to regulate
everyone else's.
