I could not quite understand if you were joking or if this was serious.
Because dns folk will kill us in the worst way they can think of if we
introduce the notion of *.domain SRV wildcard record.

The only way to go about it is to extend what wildcards mean to allow
something like _a.*.domain.com (see my previous message on this subject 
about adding reverse wildcards to zone files for servers to synthesize 
records on-the-fly), and I've been told privately its possible but it'll 
take around 5 years for this to go through draft, wg discussion, ietf 
standard process and then some more time for upgrading software until 
everyone can support it. 

It does seem however that NAPTR records were crated in part to point to 
correct SRV entry when wildcard or similar functionality is desired
and that dns folks have little less problems about overloading them
and using for different applications.
