Telling people they can't use their mobile device as an email client is an
even bigger nonstarter than telling them to switch providers.
If the vast majority of users behave a certain way, telling them that
they must change produces an effort that is both useless to the industry
and irritating to the users.
When that majority is millions or billions of users, the suggestion
moves from impractical waste to silly insult.
Anyone taking exception to this view needs to provide very explicit
analysis of the adoption and use scenario that will make the proposal
successful -- and they need to cite the evidence for its practicality.
