Dear colleagues,

This is an announcement of an IETF-wide Call for Comment on
draft-iab-doi-04.

The document is being considered for publication as an Informational RFC
within the IAB stream, and is available for inspection here:
http://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-iab-doi/

The Call for Comment will last until 2015-07-29. Please send comments to
iab(_at_)iab(_dot_)org.

I think this is just fine - the draft documents what has been
done already and works already. I like that rfc1149 is used
as the example:-)

I dunno if having a DOI for all RFCs is a huge deal, but it's
at worst harmless and probably slightly helpful from my sort-of
academic perspective.

It seems a little odd that there'll now be a direct monetary
cost per new RFC, but there've been real costs per-RFC always
so that's not really new, just odd.

When the style guide is modified I might have comments about
"The RFC Style Guide will be updated to describe the rules
for including DOIs in the References sections of RFCs" as I
don't like new "rules" in general but that'll probably be fine
when we get there so long as the style guide has some new
advice for using DOIs and doesn't make spending time tracking
down a DOI a MUST for authors.

Cheers,
S.
