I don't know about the rest of the world, but over here we have some
excellent isp's that have no problem whatsoever with running your own
servers. For example, my ISP says 'fine, go ahead, run your own mail
server on port 25'.
Likewise, my ISP has no problems with people running servers on their
DSL lines. However, the original poster was a cable modem customer and
may have no choice of ISP unless they're prepared to give up broadband
access (and I don't think I could do that!).
