Re: reputation systems and RHSBLs

2004-06-12 14:03:01

Should we start such a reputation system ourselves?

If so, could we propagate it through cutting-edge
peer-to-peer anonymizing network systems?

There's a whole bunch stuff out there - but for interest you might start
looking here:
http://distributeddns.sourceforge.net/

We've been looking at Chord: http://www.pdos.lcs.mit.edu/chord/
for something unrelated.

If I'm wrong I
don't want to start a huge thread, but it seems to me that a
P2P model gives you the following benefits:

 - anonymity (and protection from lawsuits)
 - scalability
 - protection from ddos attacks

getting all three right is the hard part. And there's a big class of
problems to do with bad actors.

Incidentally, if you're setting up a reputation service (to which I guess
you'd present a domain name for a rating), why not set one up to which you
can present an IP (and a domain name?). Then you don't need SPF :-)
