IIRC, this was the basis of the argument that the tech at EasyDNS (our
DNS host) used when I inquired about setting up PTR records as I was
initially implementing mail service. Their policy is that if you need
rDNS then you need to run your own Primary DNS server and at most all
they'll provide is redundant secondaries. I believe they might also be
worried about liabilities if one of their customers sets up
bogus/malicious mappings.
Incidentally, we have a /28 from SBC and when we first got the
allocation I inquired about them setting up the reverse mappings. They
refused, with the explanation that DNS was a service associated with
their web hosting (which is something we don't use from them). Pretty
much a total pain in the ass to deal with them on any level.
