Since most probably some spammers are members of this mailing list,
I would not disclose here too many tips how to block spam.
Any spammer who would be on this mailing list is too sophisticated to be
stopped by simple tricks like I mentioned anyway.
Those tricks work against two categories of spammers:
- Small-time, non-technically-sophisticated operations using pre-fabbed
spam software. They probably bought one of those "ten million email
addresses!" CDs with built-in spam software included.
- Zombied personal computers being used to spend spam. In order to keep
the footprint small this software tends to be crude and simple.
Larger, sophisticated spamming operations won't fall for delaying tricks and
greylisting, except to the extent they decide it's not worth the extra
bandwidth and CPU load to circumvent them.
