As 6.4 from domain keys note - it's can possible to use
web-mail or remote
SMTP server with AUTH.
But this is not effective to contact my USA SMTP/WWW server
if I'm currently
in Singapore and sending email to my client in Singapore.
SMTP AUTH and SUBMIT are the preferred way to go. Use STARTTLS if you
want more privacy and security. It is obviously not be efficient, from
the network bandwidth standpoint, to submit a message from Singapore to
an SMTP server in the U.S. for delivery to a recipient in Singapore. If
you want to be able to send your mail and have the recipient accept it,
that may be your only reliable path. Even if the message was signed
with PGP, S/MIME or DK, why should a foreign ISP accept it for relay if
you are not their customer? IMHO, they shouldn't.
The old days of the internet with open relays for all to (ab)use are
gone. It's regrettable, but the current level of forgeries and network
abuse have made change necessary.
