Yes. Life is nontrivial.

Completely agree.
But IT/CS must simplify your life, not complicate it.

I prefer to update my MTA software once and forget about it for years.
I dislike idea to not visit Hawaii because of requirements to keep SPF
filters updated ;-)

Even more - SPF are not suitable for FidoNet-like offline email systems in
developing countries.
Take Africa as example. There is no established and static mail routing
architecture. Ad-hoc connections are common.

There is even more non-traditional Bus-Net (Floppy Net-like) email delivery
systems already prototyped that can use busses (dogs, horses, birds etc..
;-)
It's not possible to configure network links for African village. Radio or
satellite is expensive. But computers usage is possible - power generators
are cheap.
Buses regularly visit this village and can deliver emails to/from at no
additional cost.
For example they can use it to access Internet http://www4mail.org/

DomainKeys with user/village tokens will make it possible to identify email
origin.
But SPF requires development of additional technologies.
