RE: Testing?

2004-08-15 09:29:28
I hadn't seen anything outside 204.127 myself, but looking again, I see I am
now using ip addresses in 204.127.198 that I hadn't seen when I did this
before (I got the same .39 that you did), so I'm going to add a /24 for the
one's you got to my record. This illustrates the dangers associated with
approximating someone else's record. If you get any more, please let me
know (probably best off list, since this discussion is no doubt of limited
interest to anyone who's not a Comcast customer in Maryland). I'll do the
same.

Also, any other Comcast customers out there who want to work on figuring
this out, please feel free to contact me.

Finally, as far as contacting Comcast, you have to fill out a web form at:

http://www.comcast.net/memberservices/contactus/contact_us.jsp

Thanks,

Scott Kitterman

I have seen:
204.127.198.35
204.127.198.39
204.127.202.55
204.127.202.56
204.127.202.64
216.148.227.85
I am in Maryland also, Parkville, MD.

About every time I send 4 messages I find a new IP address!
No end in sight!
I guess I will contact Comcast. Got an email address?

Guy

Thanks! I failed the test. Since I am on a DHCP IP address, I
forward out
using Comcast.net. They don't have spf records!
Once I make a list of the outbound mail servers I can fix my spf
record and
re-test.

Guy

I don't know if Comcast's outbound servers vary regionally, but I came up
with
?ip4:204.127.202.0/24. I'm in Maryland. I'd be interested to
see what you
get. Also, I put the ? in front of it so that I don't get tagged with
having sent stuff that other Comcast customers (or potentially
the spammers
that have zombified them) send with my domain.

I would encourage you to put in a support call to them asking
them to create
an SPF record. I've had one in for two months that's still open (we've
forwarded to a higher level and they'll get back to you).

If they get more requests, they might be more likely to act.
