If they choose to comment on technical matters then they should be
prepared to be held to the same standards as anyone else commenting on
technical issues. This was one of the things I found weird about the
comments (FTC Summit) of Paula Bruening from Center for Democracy and
Technology. She clearly didn't understand how the technology (TCP/IP)
works but felt comfortable talking about what it did (her point was
incorrect).

I have no problems with someone making comments about the political or
social implications of a technology. I do expect them to have at least
a basic understanding of how the technology works.

impressed.
