CDO isn't an SMTP library. It's a message object management library
that implements a small portion of SMTP.
Also, follow along closely, not CDO, but C-D-O-S-Y-S.
It is a commonplace of Classic ASP (unmanaged) development that one
either chooses CDONTS (deprecated after CDOSYS came out), CDOSYS, or a
third-party COM library with extended features when implementing SMTP
client features.
The chosen option is considered "the SMTP client library in use" by
anyone who develops for a living.
