Another good solution would be to allow mails without moderation from
people who are subscribed, but require moderation from non-subscribed
adresses.
The mailman lists that I run are set up so that posting from members
isn't moderated, but posting from non-members is. Becoming a members
does require approval, which is how we (try to) avoid spammers -- most
of the time we succeed! I'm not sure how many folks subscribe in any
one week, but this might be a good way to balance access and speed of
list processing with avoiding spammers.
