In my original message on 15 Jul 2004 I described the issue, the
background, similar changes made in the past, analyzed the impact
of making the From field optional on normal replies as well as
MDNs and DSNs. I mentioned the related Resent-From field and
brought up possible considerations w.r.t. the Sender field. I
pointed out that some wording would need to be changed. In
subsequent discussions, issues related to core protocols (e.g.
DNS) have been discussed.

If there have been other proposals with a similar degree of
analysis and presentation (e.g. analysis of Resent-From, MDNs,
and DSNs, which I haven't seen mentioned since my 15 Jul message),
with specific implications for RFC 2822's successor, then I haven't
seen them (perhaps you are referring to "half-baked idea[s]",
which fall short of a specific proposal considering the relevant
implications).
