I don't know what you think you mean by "the immediate parent Message-
ID" But here are some Headers from one of Sean's posts:
In-reply-to: <43EA4A75(_dot_)6030008(_at_)codeexamples(_dot_)org>
References:
<5(_dot_)1(_dot_)1(_dot_)6(_dot_)2(_dot_)20060208095815(_dot_)0ab63e18(_at_)smtp(_dot_)professional(_dot_)org>
<5(_dot_)1(_dot_)1(_dot_)6(_dot_)2(_dot_)20060208095815(_dot_)0ab63e18(_at_)smtp(_dot_)professional(_dot_)org>
Here's the message he replied to:
In-reply-to:
<5(_dot_)1(_dot_)1(_dot_)6(_dot_)2(_dot_)20060208095815(_dot_)0ab63e18(_at_)smtp(_dot_)professional(_dot_)org>
Message-id: <43EA4A75(_dot_)6030008(_at_)codeexamples(_dot_)org>
References:
<5(_dot_)1(_dot_)1(_dot_)6(_dot_)2(_dot_)20060208095815(_dot_)0ab63e18(_at_)smtp(_dot_)professional(_dot_)org>
This is exactly right. The message-id of the message replied to goes
to the IRT header (<43EA4A75(_dot_)6030008(_at_)codeexamples(_dot_)org>). The
previous IRT
(<5(_dot_)1(_dot_)1(_dot_)6(_dot_)2(_dot_)20060208095815(_dot_)0ab63e18(_at_)smtp(_dot_)professional(_dot_)org>)
gets
added to the References: header.
What are you expecting Sean's MUA to do that you think it's not doing?
