I believe you live in a different world than mine. In my world the
Internet is not something that is US only. Actually, I live in Norway
and could basically not care less about how US law regulates mail
servers.

The whole problem here is that MUAs have no reason to send direct to
port 25, that's why there is port 587. Sometimes the only way to force
an industry to clean up their act is with the threat of heavy fines.

For those in other countries one can only hope that they make the same
change.
