I think it can be very hard to determine what parts of an email need
to be kept confidential. Contrived example: imagine someone who
publicly stated they knew the answer, was certain, and did not need to
"go back and RTFRFC". Then they decide to *quietly* submit a query to
use in hopes of not losing face. Even minor details, spelling errors
or the situation could cause them to lose face.

True, but only the submitter themselves can judge that, and that's what the
confidentiality selector is for. There is no shame in using it to request
confidentiality, even for reasons not obvious to project staff.

But my point is that the confidentiality selector *doesn't* currently
have an option that says "do not discuss this email in public". Well,
we currently have that as an option on the selector, but in practice,
we only munge the infomation we think need to be kept confidential.
What I'm saying above is that we really can't know for sure what all
information needs to be kept confidential.
