I could easily get Python 2.5 for Solaris 2.8, but we don't have any other 
Python in the environment, so it would be difficult to get it in.  I think 
I could upgrade my Perl easier.  Or, if the 5.6.1 fix is out shortly, I 
can start my testing with Mail::SPF::Query and switch to Mail::SPF when 
the fix is in (uur, I mean out).

As it happens, I was on IRC with the author when I saw your message.  He's 

looking into another, possibly, Perl 5.6 related issue already reported:

It looks like you  may have the same issue.  It sounds like he'll have a 
fix 
shortly.  In the meantime, if you want to look at another library:

What version of Python can you get with SunSolaris 2.8?

pyspf has been tested as far back as Python 2.2.  pyspf 2.0.2 works with 
Python 2.3.  A one line fix for Python 2.2 compatibility was needed and 
can 
be pulled from the head of the pyspf 2.0 branch on CVS if you are 
interested:
