I have a similar setup, except that I *have* to use my ISP's SMTP relay

You don't change your sender, you just add a 'a' mechanism for their 
server, or even ptr:earthlink.net and then you are all done. Yes, it is 
not as tight as it could be, but it eliminates the vast majority of senders.
