How valuable is a logo? I'm about to buy a Verisign

Food for the thought, I got my seal for $0. It does not say Verisign on
it but I find it cool, and it does not require flash.
https://arneill-py.sacramento.ca.us/ Put the mouse cursor over the
yellow padlock. Oh by the way it's 100% bogus, and about 55% of the
non-geek innocent people being asked which one was the real one, mine or
the real one at http://www.trustlogo.com/ answered that mine was the
real one and Trustologo's was a fake because mine "looked better" or
"moved with the mouse" or "worked with Opera" :-D ROTFL

Anyway, I don't find the SPF logos that bad, at least not the ones with
the envelope. I did drop it on my personal web site. There could be some
improvement in the area of the magnifying glass showing the source
address being inspected though.

We gotta loose the spyglass - that's one thing for sure.

I do not agree. There could be other things, but if done right the
magnifying glass inspecting the source address is a powerful symbol.

we need something as eyecatchingly sexy as the verisign
"Secure Site Seal" program logo (see http://www.verisign.com)

It is sexy allright, but there is a catch here: it requires Macromedia
Flash. I could possibly do something neat, but are we ready to accept
that in order to view the logo one has to install flash (or xyz plugin)?

- branding is very very important: every time someone adopts
SPF and uses the logo, it's the root of a new tree of people
who are going to find out and possibly use it too. Every time
someone writes about it online or in a magazine, the logo is
going to catch eyes and inspire confidence and trust.

No argument here.

I'd be happy to compile ideas and produce a few sketches. Links of what
you like and/or don't are welcome on the list or privately.
