I try to avoid thinking about the new gTLDs as much as possible, since
they just make me disgusted and nauseated.  So I missed that this means a
bunch of new top-level domains run by people who may not realize what
works and what doesn't work with such domains.
  
Actually, the question that started this whole thread was around ICANN's 
"SSAC Report on Dotless Domains"  that stated dotless domains are not 
allowed in SMTP. Dave Crocker was just wondering if anyone knew what was 
the standards basis for ICANN's statement (since RFC 5321 allows them).
In other words, it appears ICANN is saying what we'd want them to say.
